2 days in the country
My sister Cathy and me decided to take a two day trip just east of my area called Prince Edward County...an island area of pretty country towns like Picton and Bloomfield.... a very nice area to spend a couple of days eating and shopping and enjoying the countryside, including the Sandbanks, a very nice beach area with sand dunes that are fun to walk around not to mention a great little workout.
I'll start off with some foodie photos.....
We found this quaint little bakery/tea room, poetically called 'The Marshmallow Room' which was just what we needed....a spot of tea and a pastry to fill our tummies before we hit the shops.
A slice of lavender honey cake....so gooood!
They also sold delicious looking jams and jellies...
Everything looking too yummy for words...
especially these petite blackberry pies!!!
On to a bit of shopping in the local shops and artists' studios.....
We loved this collection of beautiful blue pottery...
and these funky tea pots.
Great shops with lots of local flowers and produce...
like these organic carrots, cherry tomatoes and...
...'fairy tale eggplants'!! How cute are these!
another studio....
...with lots of angels.
I like this rusted one in the driveway.
An old victrola.
This sign made me laugh...The best sign ever for antiques!!
Unfortunately it was closed.
This is the most interesting mannequin I've ever seen, in a consignment shop....
....especially love the Police Do Not Cross tape!!
Here's the local theatre...quite old!
On our travels we came across some cute critters....
...this little girl was named Buster...not the most feminine name, but such a friendly gal!
These kitties in a pet store up for adoption. This cutie was watching
this other thirsty kitty..
..hope they get good homes!
Another critter....this praying mantis was hanging out on a door screen...
and this little fellow looked at me as if to say 'Why don't you take a picture, It'll last longer'!
I took lots and lots of flower shots....like these glorious sunflowers...
and these pretty morning glories....
...a beautiful display on this artist's back deck.
Amazing colors and varieties of many flowers....
....posing with the posies.
This sunflowers' head was so heavy it drooped elegantly over the rose bush.
This chair should be in a gallery....so beautiful in it's peeling, weathered state.
More yard art!
We spent an afternoon at the shores of Sandbanks beach...
..walking about....
and enjoying the sun and the sand.
We lounged on beach towels eating brownies and collected tiny shells...
then rolled up our shorts and waded in the slightly chilly water. You could walk quite a ways in the water before it got deeper.
Guess which feet are mine?
A lovely day at the beach it was!
Back to the B&B...Angeline's...
....with it's trees decorated with many turquoise birdhouses.
The main house was a beautiful old mansion with a cafe, fine dining restaurant and spa facilities, with 9 motel rooms across the driveway.
So this is the end of this long blog post...hope you enjoyed the photos of our little trip in small town Ontario.
